2018 FESTIVAL OF CHILDHOOD – INSTILLING MORAL VALUES IN OUR CHILDREN

This is the time of the year set aside specially to celebrate Nigerian children.Every May 27th is Nigeria Children’s Day, celebrating our youngest citizens.

This is an inspirational Entry-point for ICCF to recommit our advocacy to Protect, Promote and Celebrate the Rights of every CHILD.

As an advocate for children,we want children to be extremely successful and happy, believing that their level of happiness will be their level of success. we want kids to lead a good and fulfilling life.At ICCF we are gaining constantly a further realization at what a monumental task this is, what experiences can we share to further their journey in life? What skills and attributes do we feel are important to compete and survive in this world?

This year Children’s Day Celebration, ICCF is organizing an interactive forum with 1000 Children and Parents within the ages 7-17 years in participation on MORAL VALUES. This forum will be backed up with the première of MIRROR. This is to highlight parents to teach the children what is right and let them know what is wrong.

The participating children are selected from:

  • Children living with disability homes
  • Orphanage homes
  • Lagos state correctional centers for boys and girls
  • Primary school children from ten LGA’s in Lagos state.

Whatever is your definition of success, the qualities that leaders should, and many more do posses, are ones that parents could use to improve the quality of life for their children. which are the foundation of MORAL VALUES.

These MORAL VALUES and qualities are based on some of the following:

  • RESPECT
  • KINDNESS
  • HONESTY
  • INTEGRITY
  • COURAGE
  • PERSEVERANCE
  • SELF- DISCIPLINE
  • COMPASSION
  • GENEROSITY
  • DEPENDABILITY
  • TEAMWORK etc

Instilling the above will protect them from potentially negative societal influence and lay the foundation for them to become GOOD CITIZENS.Of course this is often easier said than done. Teaching VALUES takes time – a scarce commodity for many parents today.” Our increasingly competitive economy is creating an environment where Mom and Dad are spending longer hours at work and fewer hours with the children.

As a result, outside influence like peer pressure and entertainment industry through social media ,television, movies, video games and musicals are having greater effects on children, shaping their perspectives more than before.

This program is to encourage parents to go back home as MIRROR for their children, have conversations on regular basis so that the topic of VALUE becomes a complete ” normal”  one in the household. That way , in future if your children do face moral conundrums, they will be more comfortable broaching the subject with their peers.

The society will continue to fill the void if we do not address this issues now.

THE CARE OF OUR CHILDREN TODAY IS THE FUTURE OF SOCIETY TOMORROW.
