Since the lockdown the rate of Child Abuse has increased; hundreds of most vulnerable children are exposed to extreme poverty and hunger and sexual abuse as a result of the impact of the COVID19 pandemic in Nigeria As number of child abuse increases there is a need to scale up on child protection measures.
Social media is full of gory stories of violence against children. Many have lost their lives (both boys & girls). It is becoming an epidemic, you will agree with me.
In view of this ICCF initiated a sensitization and awareness interactive forum with 600 children within three LGAs in Lagos state for 3months, there should be safe and proper protection measures for children.
Child Abuse is a national tragedy, taking the lives of one to three children every day and affecting millions of children and families every year. We need to work together to help strengthen and support families so that we can prevent tragedies from occurring.
The campaign sensitization commenced in August till October with 200 children each in the 3LGAS, Pre-teens, and Teenagers from ages 8-17years in each LGA to raise more awareness.
The aim of this project is to create more awareness on Protection, Prevention, and Defense from CHILD ABUSE, to eradicate Child Abuse from our society, let us secure a future for our children a bright, Hopeful, Opportunity, and Security in a secured environment..
We counseled the children on how to recognize the GROOMING SIGNS, assuring them of their Development and Security, this will build more Hope for them that;
‘IT DOES NOT HAVE TO HURT TO BE A CHILD!
The children were given ICCF Child abuse protection wristband, nose mask, hand sanitizer, and Child Abuse Storybook to help them understand, more information on the protection of children from child abuse. The event was well planned and safety is our first priority with social distancing, hand sanitizer, and face mask for every participant seated at each sensitization training session.
